BIOGRAPHY
Phyllis Smith is an American actress and casting director, born on July 10, 1951, in St. Louis, Missouri. The second of nine children, Phyllis graduated from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with an education degree. Between the 70s and 80s, she worked as a dancer and as a cheerleader for the St. Louis Cardinals of the NFL. Suffering a knee injury, she had to give up both and moved to California, where she began working as a casting director and extra. While working in the casting department for the series The Office , Phyllis received the offer to join the series, in a character created specifically for her, as a soft-spoken saleswoman who often has differences with her boss; Her role earned her enormous popularity and several recognitions. Recently, Smith was part of the series The OA (2016-2019), in the role of Betty Broderick.
