BIOGRAPHY
When we think of Peter Falk, the first image that comes to mind is obviously that of Lieutenant Columbo. This role, which made him famous and which he has played for 34 years ( Prescription Murder , the first episode of a prolific series, arrived on the small screen in 1967, across the Atlantic), has forever marked the career of this actor, whose slate nevertheless contains many other interpretations.

He began as an actor well before Columbo in the drama The Forbidden Forest by Nicholas Ray , in 1958. Subsequently, his tragicomic roles as a gangster/psychopath in films such as The Bloody Brood in 1959, or Crime, Societe Anonyme in 1960 (for which he was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting role) demonstrate all the potential and versatility of the future star. In 1961, he received a second Oscar nomination for his supporting role in Frank Capra ‘s comedy-drama Billionaire for a Day (1961). This was followed by The Great Race Around the World in 1965, a comedy for which he was Jack Lemmon ‘s hilarious foil , and whose complicity was reminiscent of that of Laurel and Hardy, Husbands in 1970, a feature film which marked the beginning of a collaboration long of several other films with his friend and director/actor John Cassavetes ( A Woman Under the Influence in 1974, Mickey and Nicky , in 1976, Big Trouble in 1985). In 1979, his recurring role in the series Columbo somewhat caught up with his film career when he played the star inspector in Robert Moore ‘s Private of These Ladies , a sort of parody of Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon . In 1987, he was the grandfather narrator of the fantasy-romantic comedy Princess Bride by Rob Reiner . In 1992, he made a very brief appearance in Robert Altman ‘s The Player . Then in 2000, he was the father of David Paymer in the comedy Enemies of Laughter by Joey Travolta (John’s brother). In 2002, he starred in Undisputed , a muscular drama about the world of boxing in a prison environment, directed by Walter Hill , and in which he was ‘Mendy’ Ripstein, an old gangster who organizes a fight between Wesley Snipes and Ving Rhames .
